Welcome home to your new manor in the countryside!

Many of you might remember my airbase from 1.0.5. This map is created in the same style. The base sits in an entirely untouched map on a 1.0.6 world. This means all the new locked chests are there for you to find!

    Map Version: 1.0.6
    Map Size: Medium
Bosses Dead: Only Eye of Cthulhu (He wouldn't leave me alone to build!)
    Shadow Orbs Smashed: 0
NPCs Spawned: All but the clothier. He'll turn up when you kill Skeletron.

    Map Features:
    • Full crafting and storage areas
    • All NPCs except the clothier
    • Herb farm
    • Surface mushroom farm
    • Cactus farm
    • Meteorhead farm and demon alter
    • Corrupt farm
    • Glowing mushroom farm
    • Jungle farm
    • Hellivator with water landing and hellhome.
    • Cottage shelters with beds at the dungeon and far left ocean.
This building is, much like the airbase, a very compact base. I tried to include the detail you see in the more epic structures but keep it to a scale that is comfortable for daily use.

Now, what you really wanted to see - the pictures!

The main body of your manor. Here are your npc quarters, storage, and crafting areas. The beds in the extremely tiny rooms will not work, however the one right above the nurse's head makes a perfect spawn location. The main map spawn is just to the left outside. (This image taken using Terrafirma.)

Herb garden, surface mushroom farm, and cactus farm.

Corruption farm, meteorhead farm, glowing mushroom farm, and jungle farm. Credit for the mosaic in the meteorhead farm goes to my fiance who is far more creative with things like that than I am.

The bottom end of the hellivator and a small shelter and crafting area just above the hell layer. This is probably where the clothier will turn up after killing Skeletron. Seems appropriate!

There are two versions of the map - one with items and one without. The version with no items also has incomplete farms this time (the structure is there, but you will need to plant a jungle/corrupt/mushroom seed etc). Feel free to pick whichever you choose - as usual I did not include any gear. Find your own!

honestly, it looks incredible, somehow you managed to do it even better than with the airship. good work.
  6. Tel Maneater

Thanks :) I just noticed the jungle farm is missing three mud blocks on the top right corner. That's going to bother me now -.- Not worth uploading a new copy though, people can just fix it in their own.

    Epic as always.

Again with the lovely creations Tel.
Where do you find the inspiration? =)

Heh, I like building is all. I actually have ideas for at least three more homes, but you won't see them soon. Think I'm going to keep the home sweet home series to one per patch so that everyone who enjoys these can have a shiny new home on a shiny new map for the shiny new patch :)

Question for those who like these: Which parts of the homes do you like the best? What things do you think you couldn't do without in a base? Trying to figure out what people like that I should keep and what things might be best replaced by others - for instance this time I replaced the obsidian generator with the meteor farm.

Have to follow you - such nifty creations!

Glad you like it, I'm flattered. As you can see, I took you up on your farm suggestion - much easier now that they changed the mud physics back!

haha, I do that with the spawn too

For anyone wondering, no I am not going to update the map file just for this. Take ten wood, two iron bars, and an iron chain (three iron bars to craft) and you can make a sawmill to add to the crafting room.

I am of the opinion that consumeables are the most important right now. Once you get enough Obsidian, you don't really "need" anymore (unless you're building an obsidian structure - but that's a different animal). Same with Meteorite. Most important things = Herb Farm, Mushroom farms (blue, regular, vile), crafting center and especially alchemy station. You don't need cactus...one stack lasts a lifetime ><.

I really loved your Goblin Army trap setup in the original "Home" base. However, if you decided to move it away from the very original spawn, you could add shark/jellyfish farm on ocean, king slime farm right next to that and harpy farm straight up in the air from the king slime farm (depending on map size). User GamingGuides2011 on YouTube has some ideas on very effective farm units that might be a good place to get a creative idea started.

I don't think it's even necessary to house all the NPCs super close by? You don't want them too far, because of the monster generation nullification, but really, I think just the explosives expert near your placed spawn point is fine (Can sell things, and buy nature's most fun item - dyne-o-myte!). Your customization of NPC rooms on the boat is pretty amazing for so compact a space though.

Hellevator is always good, potion chest near exit is great - that's got Industrial engineer written all over it. Efficient! Of course you haven't added a nudie bar yet (I kid!).

That's it for now I guess...good job, as always!

noooo don't do it! im too lazy to do it myself! /sarcasm

Nice, big, specialized and personalized rooms for my NPC's, i don't like when NPC rooms are "the same" in most maps around here, they lack personality.

I also like farms, specially an obsidian farm, but they have to be underground, i find it kind of weird when they are floating in the air randomly.

I like nice arenas for battling or training. I tried making an underground jungle themed arena before in my map, but it never spawned anything at all.

A town would be nice, but it would be empty and raided by monsters i guess.

I think you where on the right track with what you had going. The map seems to be designed to provide a player with everything they could ever want, save an explored map. I say stick to that setup. Put the obsidian generator back in, add some mob grinders, add in other odd easy-mode contraptions (yes, I say it with some passive aggressiveness, but I truly think it would be what the type of people that want the map would like to have). An all out the-game-is-done-for-me map.

    ALSO:
With your ability/desire to make 'starter' maps for people, you could provide a more toned down version with a basic nice looking town, a large house with all of the crafting stations a small/med storage area and some starting materials/potions/ores/small garden. Something where a newbie can get in and get a super-solid start, but not have 99fireblossom, 100safes (infinite money much?), etc etc.

It could be a fun project.

I don't mind including the obsidian generator in future maps and will likely include the spawnpoint lava trap if it makes sense in the home design, but I kind of draw the line at monster farms - have to leave something for the people who download this to do. The no-items version is for those who want the pretty house without taking items from someone else.

Not really sure there's much call for a noob version - most people new to the game won't be downloading maps yet and honestly should play through once the correct way. I do know a couple people use the no items version to start a new character with, however these are people who have already "beat" the game.

The meteor-head farm doesn't give you meteorite, it gives you money from killing meteorheads ;) See the above response for the creature farms.

Didn't know you could place heart crystals.
  20. Tel Maneater

Used an editor to do it - usually you can't. The idea was too good to pass up though.
