This is but the first of many projects we hope to pursue towards the achievement of a strong community culture here on TO. _______________________________________________Frequently Asked Questions Table of contents Thread related questions (managing, formatting, editing, et cetera) How do I post a thread? How can I lock/move/delete/rename my own thread? How do I make spoilers? My spoilers sometimes duplicate! How can I fix this? I keep getting emails whenever someone replies to a thread, is there a way to stop this? How do I insert/upload an image to my post/thread? - - Question: How do I post a thread? Answer: The process of making and posting a thread is twofold: First one must decide which section of the forums would be most appropriate for the type of thread one is creating. A quick overview of each section can be found at the very bottom of this FAQ. Please take care when doing this. When one is decided, it is time to create the actual thread. This, too, is accomplished in a sequential fashion: First, one must navigate to the section chosen in the first step. When in that section, the Post New Thread-button is found at the top-right: Having pressed the button, the following view is presented: The title field defines the name with which the thread will be presented to the community, and the box below it houses the body of the thread's opening post. At this stage one should take exquisite care; a sloppily made thread is rarely well received. Spend a few extra minutes to ensure that the forum is populated by quality as opposed quantity. Additionally, if you are authoring a guide, it is recommended you take a look at How to write a guide by Nuxohiz. - - Question: How can I lock/move/delete/rename my own thread? Answer: In principle, threads are not deleted from Terraria Online unless an exact duplicate exists (or they are spam of a variety that simply doesn't do, such as illicit material). You may, however, have your thread either locked, moved or renamed. The best way to achieve this is to report your thread, asking for such action to be taken. You do this in the following way: Locate the report button at the bottom of the opening post, next to the date, your name and the edit button. After pressing the report button, the following dialogue appears. In the report reason field, explain that you wish for your thread to be locked, moved or renamed. If you wish you may specify a reason. After having sent the report a moderator will aid you as soon as possible. Alternatively you may contact a moderator directly, however this method might result in a longer response time, as the previous one is directed towards the entire staff. - - Question: How do I make spoilers? Answer: In order to put some content within spoilers (be it text, pictures, YouTube videos et cetera), you must embed it within the following BB Code tags: Code: [spoiler] Your content… [/spoiler] The code above renders the following: Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Your content… If you wish to make your spoiler somewhat more informative, you may use the following addition: Code: [spoiler="Click here to see my content"] Your content… [/spoiler] In this example, the spoiler button will be renamed according to what you supply within the quotes, like so: Click here to see my content (Move your mouse to reveal the content) Click here to see my content (open) Click here to see my content (close) Your content… For more information on the spoiler tags, see TheSteak's guide Spoilers - How to Make, Fixing the Double Ones and Other Stuff. For more information on BBCode in general, see this forum resource: Help - BB Codes. - - Question: My spoilers sometimes duplicate! How can I fix this? Answer: The spoilers duplicating is a glitch within the forum software that stems from there being a BB Code tag opened outside your spoiler and ending inside of it. The easiest way to resolve this problem is to switch to the BB Code Editor, found at the top of the message window: In this mode you can scrutinise the BB Code and move any ending codes to outside of the spoiler tag. For more information on spoilers, please refer to TheSteak's guide Spoilers - How to Make, Fixing the Double Ones and Other Stuff. - - Question: I keep getting emails whenever someone replies to a thread, is there a way to stop this? Answer: Yes, there is! Go to your preference page and uncheck the box saying "and receive email notifications of replies," as shown below: - - Question: How do I insert/upload an image to my post/thread? Answer: In order to attach an image to your post you must do either of the following things: You may upload the image to the internet using free services such as imageshack.us, photobucket.com or tinypic.com, amongst many, many others. Once you have the image uploaded you want to find the direct link to it within the following tags: Code: [IMG]http://image.url.png[/IMG] Alternatively, you may upload the image to Terraria Online directly. You do so by finding the button at the bottom of the thread in which you want to post it labeled "Upload a File," right next to where you type a reply, as shown below. Once you have done so, you will find a small preview of the image underneath the text box. Press either of the two buttons next to the image to insert a thumbnail or the full-size image into your post. For more information on how to upload images, as well as a guide on how to capture images, please refer to Doctor G33K's guide How to Post Images on the Forum. - - _______________________________________________Community related questions Index of questions: I am being harassed on my profile. Is there a way to block messages? What are the rules on profile posts, are they the same as posting in the forum? What is this 'follow' business and is it important? Some random individual is following me. Is there a way to remove unwanted followers? How do I PM others? How do I achieve a specific forum rank? I believe I know how to make Terraria Online better! What do I do? - - Question: I am being harassed on my profile. Is there a way to block messages? Answer: As of the forum update of October 2, 2012, Terraria Online now has such a feature. It can be accessed here. In addition you can restrict access to your profile. By visiting the privacy settings you can change who may see and write on your profile, as shown below: - - Question: What are the rules on profile posts, are they the same as posting in the forum? Answer: The answer is both yes and no. The rules are similar in that one shall remain well mannered and avoid breaking the general forum rules (concerning respect, advertising, hacking or pornography et cetera). The profile posts are different in that they advocate shorter messages, however. When authoring a status message on your own profile you are limited to 140 characters, and when responding to or posting on another member's profile you are limited to 420 characters. Furthermore there is no rule against double posting on profiles. - - Question: What is this 'follow' business and is it important? Answer: No, not particularly. There are three things related to following someone: They show up on your profile page, and you show up on theirs. If a person you are following is online, his or her avatar will be shown on the forum home screen. The posts, status updates and likes of the people you are following will be shown in your news feed. - - Question: Some random individual is following me. Is there a way to remove unwanted followers? Answer: No, there is not. However, if it is truly bothering you, you may very well ask the person politely. - - Question: How do I PM others? Answer: On XenForo, the forum platform Terraria Online uses, PM's are referred to as "Conversations." There are three ways to start a conversation: If you click a forum users name or avatar, a popup appears. You may find the "Start a Conversation" button there: You find the same sort of button under the "Information" tab on a user's profile page: Down the bottom of this page you find "Start a Conversation": Finally you may start a conversation by following this link. Once there you can type the name of member(s) you wish to communicate with into the participants field, as shown below: Please note that some members choose to disable conversations, meaning you cannot start a conversation with them. - - Question: How do I achieve a specific forum rank? Answer: The different ranks available to users are all achieved by earning trophy points, as indicated by the list below: New Member: less than 5 trophy points. Member: 5 or more trophy points. Active Member: 20 or more trophy points. Well-Known Member: 48 or more trophy points. For more info on how to earn trophy points as well as a comprehensive list of all forum ranks, see Forum Rank Information by Lyra. - - Question: I believe I know how to make Terraria Online better! What do I do? Answer: That is fantastic! The best way to voice your opinion regarding the forum and fulfill your desire to make it better is to visit the Community Feedback Portal, in which all discussions regarding the state or future of the forums are welcome. Please do not be daunted by the sheer amount of pages and posts in there - instead take some time to read the opening post, in which Loki ISP tries to keep an updated list of the help portals current and past affairs. - - _______________________________________________Account related questions Index of questions: I think my account has been hacked! What should I do? Are we allowed to make another account for Terraria Online? Is it possible to change username? - - Question: I think my account has been hacked! What should I do? Answer: The first thing you should do is to contact the administrator of Terraria Online: Kane. The next order of business should be to change your password, provided you still have access to your account. If you haven't got access to your account anymore, you will need to provide substantial evidence to prove that the forum account is indeed yours. - - Question: Are we allowed to make another account for Terraria Online? Answer: There is no rule against making more than one account so long as you don't abuse it for the sake of achieving likes, pretend to be someone you for personal gain or break the forum rules. - - Question: Is it possible to change username? Answer: Alas, no. You used to be able to do so, however changes in the topmost leadership of the site has rendered this feature somehow broken. - - _______________________________________________Signature related questions Index of questions: Is my signature too large? Where do I get those signature icons? - - Question: Is my signature too large? Answer: Signatures must be no more than 150 pixels in height, text and images included, in order to conform with the forum rules. If your signature is any larger an infraction will ensue, of varying severity depending on how large it is. See this diagram, also from the forum rules, for reference: - - Question: Where do I get those signature icons? Answer: You can find a very large collection of Terraria related icons here (by INNO) and here (by AkaenRievkelar). - - _______________________________________________Infraction related questions Index of questions: What are infractions? I disagree with an infraction I received, who can I contact? - - Question: What are infractions? Answer: Infractions are what the moderators and administrators use to keep track of a person's record of breaking the rules and, if rendered prudent, the infraction system takes care of instant banning users over certain infraction thresholds. For example, if your signature is way too big, you will receive three infraction points, counting towards a total. If that total exceeds 15 points, you will automatically be banned for one week. If the total comes to surpass 30 points, you will be banned indefinitely. More information on the Infraction System is available in the forum rules. - - Question: I disagree with an infraction I received, who can I contact? Answer: In order to discuss an infraction you may contact the moderator who filed it. His or her name can be found in blue on the red infraction notice under the reprimanded post. For an example, see Valanthril on the image below: If the Moderator disagrees with you, and you aren't satisfied by his or her explanation, or you feel the Moderator is being unfair, feel free to contact a different Moderator for a second opinion. Alternatively you may contact Kane, the administrator of Terraria Online. For much more information on infractions and the meaning thereof, see the forum rules. - - _______________________________________________Staff related questions Index of questions: Who are the staff members of Terraria Online? How do I become a moderator? - - Question: Who are the staff members of Terraria Online? Answer: An updated and complete list of the staff of Terraria Online is to be found at the very top of the forum rules. As of currently, they are: Administrators: Kane and ahamling27. Moderators: Doctor G33k, kirabook, Mistress Rarity, Valanthril, Aeynia, blumchen, Sokina, Kelp, Twi and Loki ISP. Inactive moderators: aavri, crazycoco, Crisis and confuzzledyma. - - Question: How do I become a moderator? Answer: In order to become a moderator you must be an exemplary member of Terraria Online. You should be aware of and follow the code of conduct of the moderators (found near the end of the forum rules) and try and report anything that does not abide by the rules and finally, do not ask for it - if you are what the staff needs, they will find you, not the other way around. There was, however, a period in the end of 2011 during which anyone could send applications in to the current staff, who then went over them. Ultimately a decision was made and three new moderators were initiated. - - _______________________________________________Is this the right section for my thread?
