edit: I solved the issue!. Read the solution on post #4. Spread the word!
edit2: On Post #27 there is an allround solution for several problems!

    Hello,
yesterday I bought the game and I have a problem, I cant run the game. I tried reinstalling the game, the XNA- and .NET framework several times (also in the correct order). when I start the game a loading circle appears and directly disappears. In the taskmanager, the application pops up for a short time but directly closes its self. Also there is NO crashlog created in any folder /My Documents/My Games/Terraria/ nor Steamapps/common/Terraria)

    PC specs:
Windows 7 64bit with the latest updates (also tested the optional updates on the .Net Framework 4)
    8 GB RAM
Geforce Nvidia 560GTX (Tried different drivers, also the latest beta drivers)
Soundcard Creative SB X-FI (tried the trick with the audioplugin. After that I removed the card completly and tested it with the onboard Soundcard)

After nothing has worked I removed all Microsoft Frameworks which were installed and just installed first the .Net Framework and then the XNA Framework... but this didn't worked either.

    edit:
I looked into the Eventnotification manager from Microsoft and it shows up two errors (Images appended)

I have found an insteresting thread
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo.../thread/6e23cf43-ae47-483b-9347-b2af3d96c4f2/
I tested it and i have exactly the same problem... but I dont want to reinstall win7... can perhaps someone send me the files?

    edit3:
I installed the game on my 64bit notebook and guess what, it worked... but I dont want to play on it... but I copied the missing files according to the thread above to my PC and rebooted.
    But it doesnt work :(

    edit4:
I reinstalled the .NET Framwork package onemore time but before I deleted all files located in the %temp% folder (read this in some msdn forum). When I now start Terraria nothing changed. But the .NET Error message changed (picture below):

also here is some code from a XML file which is created for about 1sec in the temp folder:

Today I did a WinDbg run on Terraria.exe and here is the log.

So I think it has something to do with the loading of the XNA Framework? Because after that clrjit.dll modul is loaded, my laptop starts loading a bunch of XNA moduls.

I SOLVED IT!!!!! MAAANNNNN THIS IS BAD ASS =D
Make this Thread PLEASE Sticky or something.... man this was hard... okay this is what I did!
It has to do with the XNA Framework. When you install it, the directories of the framework doesnt get the specific rights to use them (to be exactly: nobody got the rights). So you have to set all the rights for every directory that belongs to the XNA framework!
Here are the directorys for Windows 7 64bit installation:
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32:
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Xact\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL:
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Avatar\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.GamerServices\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Input.Touch\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Net\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Storage\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553
    Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Video\v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553

This is how you change the right to use it (I have a german installation, so the translation might not be precise):
    - rightclick the specific directory
    - select properties
    - select the "security" tab
    - click on "adavanced"
    - select the "owner" tab
    - click on the bottom button "edit"
    - on this window select the "administrator" in the row and make sure to select the checkbox below
    - press apply and close all the windows
    - now the directory has the correct rights for the system to use them

To know whether you have the same problem like me, just try to enter one of the directorys or check the security tab, if no one got rights (not even the system) then you have the same problem, and this solution will help you!...
man this problem was really bad.... tried 2 days to solve it..

no problem! enjoy this great game :)
  7. lolwutmang Green Slime

I tried everything you did gysi, and it still does not work for me.
  8. gysi Squirrel

    With all 10 folders?
  9. lolwutmang Green Slime

I did but I do have one thing that is weird. I tried looking up other solutions to this program and one was renaming the assembly folder to "assembly 2". So now after many times of uninstalling and installing I now have three assembly folders: "assembly", "assembly 2" and "assembly old".
  10. Zerest Green Slime

The frameworks run off of the folder they're programmed to run off of in general which would be the, "Assembly" folder. I know which article you read that fixed your .Net Framework error of trying to repair/install it, I did the same thing. Set all the permissions said in the "assembly" folder and disreguard the other ones. To the frameworks, your "assembly 2" and "assembly old" doesn't even exist. Just set all the permissions stated in this thread to the "assembly" folder and you should be good to go if you've done it right.

Better yet, just select the "assembly folder" and follow the steps said. The box to tick denotes ALL of the folders and subfolders to give permissions to so it'll give permissions to all of the folders in one swoop. If you wonna get more general with it, select the Microsoft.NET folder and doing the instructions with the permissions said would be alright too but it takes a little while.

Good find on this, gysi. I had this problem for a while and I JUST thought of the idea of checking my Event Viewer logs to look for problems within the Programs field, searched google a little bit more and low and behold, you had a fix. Awesome job man, saved me SO much time.
  11. lolwutmang Green Slime

Did it, I still cannot play.
  12. gysi Squirrel

    @lolwutmang
nobody cant really help you.. because you said nothing about your problem and what exactly you did to raise it.
But if you want you can try this:
    - download windbg http://i337.de/windbg.zip
    - start windbg.exe
    - Go to File -> Open Executable -> Open Terraria.exe (located in Steam/steamapps/common/terraria)
    - Press F5 until nothing happens (1-4 times, depends on your error)
    - copy all the text from the window and paste it here in a code tag

Also say something about your specs (Windows version (32/64bit), .Net Framework versions installed, XNA Framework versions installed)

Edit: for other people that come accross here, to run windbg properly you have to install the whole Windows SDK, link here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8279
Also in the installation you have to mark the debugging Tools checkbox, otherwise windbg won't run properly!

You have 2 problems now. About the first problem I cant tell you anything.
About the second problem I can tell you this:
It seems that when you were talking about renaming your assembly folder, you didnt mean the
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly folder
    you meant the
    C:\Windows\assembly folder ...
So actually you messed something up in your system I think. Do you have the old assembly folder? If yes, then rename it back and delete the new one. After that, run windbg.exe again and post the log.
  15. Reety123 Green Slime

I tried what you told me to do and I'm having the same problem. Like the preparing game window pops up for a second goes away and it leaves me with a loading circle next to my cursor and that goes away within 5 seconds. I set all of the files to administrator and it still doesn't start if anyone has any other solutions I could try out it would be very much appreciated.
  16. gysi Squirrel

explain exactly what you did, I could bet that you did it wrong.
also can you add a picture showing the security tab of one of the folders?
  17. Reety123 Green Slime

how do I take a picture is there some form of software i need to download. I did exactly what your step by step instructions told me to do I made sure of it by checking each of them atleast 3 times. Please tell me how to take a picture or a link where I can download the software from.

  19. gysi Squirrel

I figured the problem out via Teamviewer.
The problem he had was that the Antivirus Software Comodo blocked a .dll file which Terraria needed.
He just had to close Comodo and BAM - the game works!
